Hay una forma de restaurar las asociaciones relevantes de Windows, entre la extensión del archivo y el programa que originalmente lo abre, además de restaurar el funcionamiento de fábrica de diversos aditamentos de Windows 7 como el menú contextual.

El último y mejor recurso para reparar Windows después de que un virus ha dañado las extensiones del sistema operativo o un programa instalado ha hecho modificaciones perjudiciales. Significa  usar un respaldo de las claves del registro de Windows para sobreescribir las dañadas o modificadas. ZIP, XML, WMV, VBS, TXT, BAT, EXE, REG*, SCR, entre otras extensiones pueden ser vueltas a punto de inicio.
Esto es únicamente para Windows 7, otros sistemas operativos pueden resultar dañados.

• Descargar Biblioteca de registros originales de Windows 7

1. Descargue la Bibliotecas de registros originales comprimidos en un archivo ZIP, descomprimalos y busque el archivo *.reg de la extensión que necesite restaurar, el nombre del archivo inicia con la extensión, por ejemplo para restaurar los archivos ZIP busque el archivo que se llama zip-fix-w7.reg.


2. Por lo general bastará dar doble clic sobre el el archivo *.REG para agregar la información al registro y aceptar cualquier mensaje de advertencia, si no funciona:

-Pulse el botón de Inicio y en el cuadro de búsqueda escriba REGEDIT y pulse intro.
-En el Editor de Registro que se abre en el menú Archivo, pulse en Importar y busque el registro de la extensión que quiera restaurar.

Mi recomendación es que únicamente restaure las extensiones que usted piense que están dañadas.

Restaurar asociación de extensiones en Windows Vista y Windows 7

Hay muchas formas de restaurar las extensiones en Windows, muchas extensiones son especiales y sólo se pueden restaurar con cambios específicos al sistema operativo, pues por lo general son extensiones originalmente ajustadas de fabrica en Windows, en este particular caso puede que ya no estén disponibles los programas que ejecutan estos archivos desde el menú contextual derecho Abrir con..., para restaurar dichas funciones hará falta usar el editor de regristros

En el menú de Inicio escribimos regedit y pulsamos Intro.

Expandimos la cadena:

+HKEY_CURRENT_USER
+Software
+Microsoft
+Windows
+Curre CurrentVersion
+Explorer
+FileExts

Al expandir la cadena FileExts podremos acceder a las extensiones de los archivos y los programas que los abren, si buscamos la extensión .gif:

Eliminar la sub-clave llamada UserChoice. para restaurar el programa por defecto dando clic derecho sobre ella y en Eliminar.

Cerramos el registro y la extensión deberá abrirse con el programa predeterminado por Windows. Por supuesto que en algunos casos especiales habrá que hacer tutoriales especiales, como en el caso de los archivos *.VBS.

Cómo deshabilitar SkyDrive / OneDrive en Windows 8.1

Una de las novedades más importantes que se introdujeron en la actualización realizada por Windows 8.1 fue la completa integración del servicio de almacenamiento de archivos en la nube de Microsoft en el sistema operativo. Aunque es usado para guardar las preferencias de usuario, podemos desactivar la mayoría de opciones de sincronización realizadas por SkyDrive (ahora OneDrive) si no estamos interesados.

Windows utiliza su servicio para muchas cosas además de utilizarlo como sistema de almacenamiento de archivos en la nube por defecto, como almacenar nuestras preferencias y opciones de configuración del sistema operativo para tenerlas disponibles en todos los equipos a los que nos conectemos. Además, está integrado en el explorador de archivos y por defecto funciona en segundo plano para realizar todas estas operaciones. Con los siguientes pasos podremos deshabilitarlo completamente.

Paso 1: Eliminar la sincronización de archivos desde el menú de configuración

En el menú Metro de Windows 8, escribiendo ‘Skydrive’ tendremos acceso a su menú de configuración pinchando en ‘Espacio de almacenamiento en SkyDrive’. En cada uno de los apartados podremos personalizar todas las opciones de sincronización, como deshabilitar que sea el servicio utilizado por defecto, automatizar sincronización de nuestros álbumes de fotos o limitar la forma que tiene nuestro equipo de conectarse a la red para realizarlo.

Aunque deshabilitemos todas estas opciones, ni mucho menos nos habremos deshecho de SkyDrive, por lo que tendremos que proceder a realizar una serie de modificaciones adicionales algo más complejas.

Paso 2: Eliminar SkyDrive del explorador de archivos

En la barra de navegación izquierda del explorador de Windows, junto a las carpetas multimedia de nuestro equipo, los Favoritos y nuestros equipos de red, tendremos permanentemente a Skydrive. Para quitarlo de ahí tendremos que recurrir al editor de registro de Windows, accesible escribiendo ‘regedit’ en el buscador de archivos. Acto seguido, tendremos que acceder de forma manual a la ruta:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{8E74D236-7F35-4720-B138-1FED0B85EA75}\ShellFolder

Acto seguido, haremos clic derecho sobre la carpeta ShellFolder y accederemos a la opción Permisos. Dentro, tendremos que pinchar en la opción ‘Cambiar’ de la cabecera junto al campo ‘Propietario’. Ahí, tendremos que escribir nuestro nombre de usuario seguido de ‘\Usuarios’. Por ejemplo, si nuestro user fuera Antonio tendríamos que introducir en el campo la frase ‘Antonio\Usuarios’.

Tras hacerlo, podremos marcar el casillero ‘Control total’ de nuestro nuestro usuario para poder modificar las claves de registro que se incluyen en dicha carpeta. Ahora sí, aplicamos los cambios realizados, volvemos atrás y hacemos doble clic en el valor Attributes. Dentro, cambiaremos el campo ‘Información del valor’ por un cero. Tras reiniciar el equipo, SkyDrive habrá desaparecido completamente del explorador de archivos.

Paso 3: Eliminar completamente la integración de SkyDrive

Aunque hayamos realizado los dos pasos anteriores, SkyDrive seguirá funcionando en segundo plano y lo veremos en la barra de notificaciones del escritorio. Por desgracia, para deshacernos completamente del servicio será necesario que dispongamos de Windows 8.1 PRO, ya que el editor de directivas de grupo local solo se encuentra disponible en esa versión.

Escribiremos gpedit.msc y nos dirigiremos a la ruta Directiva Equipo Local > Configuración del equipo > Plantillas Administrativas > Componentes de Windows. Ahí haremos doble click en la carpeta SkyDrive, donde habilitaremos la opción ‘Impedir el uso de SkyDrive para almacenar archivos’. Hecho esto, no tendremos siquiera que reiniciar el equipo, pues los cambios serán efecectivos de forma inmediata. ¡Qué difícil nos lo pone Microsoft!

Cómo desactivar SkyDrive en Windows 8.1

SkyDrive, o su nuevo nombre comercial OneDrive, tiene un comportameineto en Windows 8.1 que puede resultar molesta. Y es que si instalas la aplicación desde la tienda, por defecto y sin poder desactivarlo, habilita la sincronización desde tu PC a tu nube en OneDrive.

Este es el icono que aparece en la barra de inicio:

... y como puede apreciarse no hay opción de cerrarlo o de evitar que se active al iniciar Windows.

Si queremos desactivar la sincronización y deshacernos de este icono podemos seguir los pasos que a continuación detallo.



Lo primero que deberemos hacer es abrir la aplicación de SkyDrive en la interfaz de Windows y dirigir el ratón hacia la esquina inferior derecha. En el menú que se despliega de Configuración seleccionaremos Opciones

También podemos hacerlo desde configuración de PC y después cambiar otras opciones de Skydrive

En estas opciones podremos desactivar la sincronización automática accediendo a las diferentes opciones:

Sincronizar configuración

Guardar documentos

Carga de fotos y vídeos

Carga de archivos y sincronización en uso medio

No obstante, estos pasos sólo permiten activar o desactivar las diferentes opciones de SkyDrive (OneDrive) pero el icono en la barra de notificaciones permanecerá activo.

Si queremos deshabilitar la sincronización online definitivamente y eliminar el icono de la barra de inicio deberemos modificar el registro de Windows.

Para ello:

Nota: deberemos ejecutarlo con derechos administrativos pues modifica una clave del registro.

Para volverlo a activar

How To Repair Windows 8.1 Installation (The Easy Way)

Windows XP, a version of Windows operating system that is going strong thirteen years after its its 2001 release, came with a handy feature to repair the corrupted Windows installation. If you ever installed or reinstalled Windows XP operating system, you probably remember the option titled Repair Windows installation that appeared during the install process.

The Repair Windows XP installation option was one of the best features of Windows XP operating system as it allowed users to repair the installation without losing data and installed programs.

However, unlike Windows XP, its successors Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 don’t feature Repair Windows installation option and instead offer a variety of other features to repair the Windows installation, including advanced commands.

While Windows 8 and 8.1 ship with Refresh PC feature, a handy feature to quickly reset Windows settings to their defaults, the downside of the feature is that it removes all desktop programs and you need to reinstall all desktop applications all over again after performing Refresh PC operation.

If you would like to repair your Windows 8.1 installation without losing files, Windows settings, and installed apps, you can follow the given below workaround to repair the installation by keeping files, Windows settings, and installed apps.

When you repair Windows 8.1 installation by following the given below instructions, you’ll be able to retain all files, installed apps, and settings. For instance, all files and shortcuts on the desktop and all files in your Documents and pictures will be retained during the repair operation.

Warning: We recommend you backup important data before following our instructions even though the procedure doesn’t delete your data.

Step 1: Turn on your PC and boot into Windows 8.1.

Step 4: When you see Get important updates screen, select first option titled Download and install updates (recommended), and then click Next button to check for updates and then install, if available. The setup might restart after installing updates.

Step 5: In the next screen, you’ll need to enter your Windows 8.1 product key. Enter the 25-character product key before clicking the Next button.

If for some reason, you can’t locate the product key, you can refer our how to recover Windows 8.1 product key from the Registry without using third-party tools guide.

Step 6: Accept the license agreement by checking the option titled I accept the license terms and clicking Accept button.

Step 7: This is the important step. Here, you need to select the first option titled Keep Windows settings, personal files and apps. Click Next button to let the setup scan your computer for available disk space and other requirements.

If the free space available on your system drive (Windows 8.1 drive) is not sufficient for the operation, you’ll be asked to free up required space before continuing further.

As we mentioned earlier, when you repair your Windows 8.1 installation by following this method, you’ll be able to retain all files, installed apps from the Store, desktop programs and Windows settings.

Please close all running applications and save your work before proceeding to the next step.

Step 8: Here, simply click the Install button to begin installing (repairing) Windows 8.1 by keeping your Windows settings, personal files and apps.

The install process might take a few minutes to hours, depending on your system configuration.

Step 9: Once setup completes installing, you’ll see the Settings screen. Here, you can either click Use express settings to go with the recommended settings or click Customize button to change default settings.

Step 10: In the next screen, you’ll be asked to enter the password of your Microsoft account that you’re using to sign-in to Windows 8.1. Type in the password and then click Next button.

You might see Help us to protect your info screen where you need to select your alternate email address to receive a code that you need to enter to verify your Microsoft account.

Or, you can simply click I can’t do this right now option and then click Next button to skip to the next step. You can verify your account later from PC settings.

Your PC might restart once again. That’s it! Your repaired Windows 8.1 installation is ready!

How To Create Restore Point In Windows 8.1

Restore Point, a feature first introduced with Windows ME, is one of the unique and best features of Windows operating system to quickly restore system files to a previous state without making changes to saved data. Windows automatically creates one restore point every week and also creates restore point prior installing updates.

While Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 include Refresh PC feature to quickly set all system settings to their defaults, and options are also available to create custom Refresh PC images, given the fact that you can’t have multiple Refresh PC images and it’s a time consuming task, Restore Point is easily the best feature to quickly restore your PC to a previous state.

Just like Refresh PC feature, you can use a restore point to restore your PC to an earlier working state even if the PC is unbootable.

It’s always a good idea to create a restore point before installing a third-party program or making changes to system files. If you’re not sure how to manually create a restore point in Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, follow the given below instructions.

How to create a manual restore point in Windows 8.1:

Step 1: Open Run dialog box by simultaneously pressing Windows logo and R keys, typeSysdm.cpl in the box, press enter key to open System Properties. Alternatively, you can switch to the Start screen, type Create a restore point, change the search filter to Settingsand then press Enter key open System Properties.

Step 2: Switch to the System Protection tab, check the protection status of your system (Windows 8.1) drive. If the protection status is on, you can continue to Step 3 to create a restore point.

And if the protection is Off, select your Windows 8.1 (system) drive, click on the Configure button, check the option titled Turn on system protection, and then click Apply button. As you can see in the above picture, it also lets you adjust the maximum disk space used for system protection.

Step 3: To create a manual restore point, click on the Create button, enter a description for the restore point, and then click Create button. That’s it! Once the job is done, you’ll see “The restore point was created successfully” message.

We recommend you create a manual restore point prior installing software and making changes to your system files.

To restore a previously created restore point in Windows 8 or 8.1:

Step 1: Open System Properties dialog. To do this, open Run dialog box by simultaneously pressing Windows logo and R keys, type Sysdm.cpl in the box, and then press Enter key to open System Properties dialog.

Step 2: Switch to System Protection tab, select your system drive (Windows 8.1 drive), clickSystem Restore button to open System Restore wizard.

Step 3: Click Next button to view most recent restore points. Check Show more restore points option to view all restore points. It shows the date and time at which the restore point was created along with the type of the restore point, and also the description that you had entered while creating the restore point.

Select a restore point and click Scan for affected programs to view all programs and drivers that will be deleted while restore your PC using the selected restore point. In other words, programs and drivers installed since the selected restore point will be removed. That also means that programs and drivers that were removed since the selected restore point will be restored.

For instance, if you have created a restore point on August 1st and installed Google Chrome browser after uninstalling Firefox browser, when you restore Windows to this restore point, it will remove Google Chrome browser and restore Firefox.

However, all your documents, pictures and other files will be preserved while restoring the restore point.

Step 4: Select a restore point, click Next button and then click Finish button to automatically restart your system and start making changes. Click Yes button when you see the confirmation dialog.

Step 5: Once the restore point is restored, you’ll see “System Restore completed successfully” message.
